Title
Post-medieval : Apothecary Weight
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy apothecary's weight of post-medieval date. The weight is square in plan and rectangular in section and is marked on both sides with four annulets. These annulets represent the value of the weight. A fifth mark is present on both sides and is possibly a makers' mark or the owners initials though it is now illegible.

The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and is only slightly worn. The weight measures 14mm long, 12.9mm wide, 4.6mm thick and weighs 6.1g.
The weight was probably used for measuring four scruples and probably dates from the 18th or 19th century.

Similar example can be seen on the database in SWYOR-45EE63 and ESS-5716A1. The weight probably dates from the 18th or 19th century.
