Title |
Post-medieval: Hanging pot mount |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy hanging bowl mount (escutcheon) in the form of a human head. The facial features are clear (expressionless) and the mount also details longish hair. The mount is broken at the base of the neck. There is a large circular mounting hole in the back of the head. This example dates from the early Post-medieval period, late 16th - 17rth century. It survives in good condition and would have been one of a pair attached to a double-spouted bowl, the later examples being remeniscent of a copper kettle. The round mounting hole on the reverse of the mount would have been where the copper alloy handle fitted. Similar examples are known from the Netherlands and from Germany. |
