Title
Post-Medieval ear ring (probably)
Description
English: A decorative copper-alloy artefact.

The object is circular in plan and has a hollow centre, having been constructed by joining together two convex plates of equal form. The thickness of the piece decreases towards what is probably the top, where there is a large circular aperture. The squashed upper surface is decorated with a series of small raised marks, each comprising a square arrangement of four dots. Traces of gilding also remain on the otherwise heavily corroded upper surface. The reverse is plain and retains no gilding. There is, however, a small circular hole, located at the centre of the underside. The object measures 17.5mm in diameter, 6.5mm thick and weighs 1.87g.

It is suggested that this may be an ear ring. This interpretation is based on a similar (unrecorded) piece observed by the recorder, in which a bent, upward-pointing piece of silver wire had been attached to the upper edge. The nature of the metal in both pieces suggests a probable post-Medieval date.
