Post-Medieval Spindle Whorl from East Cowick
Description
English: Lead

Spindle Whorl. Cast biconical whorl with central cast aperture of diameter 10.1mm. A typical, if tidy, decorative scheme comprises, on one side: nineteen pellets, each positioned on a radial line extending from the raised rim of the central aperture and meeting an outer rim; and single pellets within thirteen sub-rectangular compartments also defined by radial lines. The mass of the object would make it suitable for spinning a heavy woollen yarn. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.

Diameter: 28.9mm, Thickness: 11.5mm, Weight: 36.78gms.
