Post-Medieval Purse Bar fragment from Scawby
Description
English: Copper alloy

Purse Bar fragment. Cast round section rod of diameter 4mm with an expanded spherical wrythen or spiral-decorated terminal at one end, and broken at a collar which accommodated a shank of diameter circa 6mm at the other. The latter would have attached the bar to a belt; the bar would have the fabric part of a purse attached to it, and the terminal was to prevent it slipping off. Suggested dateL: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.

Length: 49.1mm, Diameter (terminal): 12.9mm, Weight: 10.30gms.
