Post-Medieval Posy Ring
Description
English: Gold finger ring. Posy ring. A cast D-section band, plain externally, but with an internal inscription rendered in angular capitals. The inscription reads: xASxYOVxWILx // with saltires separating words and with two superfluous slashes; the last word has doubled lines forming the I and L and serifs are prominent throughout. The phonetically correct English may point to a 17th-century date. Slightly battered. If the proposed dating were to be sustained, the item would constitute Treasure. It is therefore to be submitted to the Treasure process, ref. 2018 T123.
