Description |
English: Lead alloy medal. A large cast disc with milled obverse and reverse designs, probably a commemorative piece, possibly of political or military achievement. The edges are torn with loss of about one quarter of the surface area. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1680-1720.
Obverse description: Conjoined busts laureate bewigged, cuirassed, and draped right. Circumferential legend surviving in part: Obverse inscription: [----]D[reversed] G (---) ENREIDE Reverse description: Male figure standing right with sword held point to ground on an altar or pediment with a square plaque to its front, flanked by curls or volutes; horizontal lines in foreground may represent ascending steps. Possibly a cloud with sunrays passing through it to top right. Reverse inscription: (---)[---]EL AL[---] Diameter: 50.1mm, Thickness: 2.5mm, Weight: 28.09gms, die axis: 12 |
