Title |
Post-Medieval Cloak Hook |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy hook. A cast blunt-ended D-section hook brazed to a concavo-convex hollow pressed metal boss which is 0.7mm thick at its edge, and which takes the form of a male lion’s head, with slightly anthropomorphic facial features. A pair of opposed drawn wire eyes are also attached to the back of the top and bottom of the mask. The finder kindly suggests a function as a cloak fastener or fitting. The lion was a popular symbol of British imperial power. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1900
Diameter (boss): 32.0mm, Width (with hook): 44.3mm, Thickness (hook): 2.6mm, Weight: 11.10gms |
