Title
Possibly Medieval padlock end cap
Description
English: Part of an unidentified object, possibly a pin, mount or padlock. The piece has a circular copper alloy head through which runs a corroded iron pin. The slightly convex front of the disc is decorated with incised line: a plain line outer border and a simple, possibly foliate design. The design has a central upright flanked near the base by two pairs of diagonal lines radiating away from it. The vertical line widens in the upper part before narrowing again to the top point, the central part is obscured and may more closely resemble a flower. This upper part is flanked by single indented dots. In the centre of the front is an area of corroded iron which seems to be the end of a flat, rectangular sectioned pin which runs through the disc to project out at the centre of the slightly concave back where it is bent sideways at 90 degrees. Due to the mass of corrosion on the front and back the exact junction is unclear. It measures 13.0mm in diameter and 5.1mm thick including the iron piece, 1.8mm thick at the edge and weighs 1.81gms.

The rectangular sectioned 'pin' suggests this is not a dress pin. The decoration and size and combination of copper alloy and iron are consistant with a detachable end cap of a Medieval barrel padlock such as SOM-222577 but there is no clear break where a projection would be attached, as is usual (see SOM-6AE232 for example) and a firm identification awaits a better parallel.
