[edit]DescriptionPortuguese squill (Scilla peruviana).jpg |
English: Name/Scientific classification
Binomial name: Scilla peruviana Portuguese squill (Scilla peruviana) is a herbaceous perennial plant with bulbs that grow best in warm and dry areas. It resembles a hyacinth and has slender straplike leaves and small clusters of violet-blue or blue-striped flowers. Native to the western Mediterranean, this species is often planted in the garden because of its striking blue flowers. It prefers sandy and well-drained soil, and its bulbs should be planted on or under the soil surface. The characterization peruviana means "from Peru", but strictly it is a species of the Western Mediterranean.
