Summary

[edit]
Description

Portsmouth harbour in England has for centuries been a major place for shipping. It is from here that the Titanic sailed on its fateful voyage.

In particular it has been a major military base, and still is. Parts of the base are open to the public and are a big tourist attraction. Permanently on display there are (among others) historic ships, such as the Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior - which is just visible at the left of the picture.

Towering nearby is the Spinnaker Tower. Construction was completed in 2005, is 560 feet (170m) high and represents sails billowing in the wind.
