Illustration issue de l'article "Périple de la Paphlagonie", Conrad Malte-Brun, Annales des Voyages, de la géographie et de l'histoire, Paris, F. Buisson, 1808, tome 5, p. 210-231. Durant l'Antiquité la Mer Moire était le lieu d'importants échanges commerciaux. Le but de l'article d'où celle illustration est issue est clairement affiché : ne pas fournir un descriptif "complet" mais apporter quelques connaissances nouvelles de lieux emblématiques, notamment la Paphlagonie (au nord de l'actuelle Turquie) ou encore la ville de Sinope (de nos jours orthographiée Sinop).
