Buste in ovaal in architecturale ornamentomlijsting met allegorische figuren die verwijzen naar taal en wetenschap. Wapen boven portret. Rond het ovaal en in de cartouche onder het portret teksten in Latijn. Vervaardiging Vervaardiger: prentmaker: Hendrick Goltzius (vermeld op object), naar eigen ontwerp van: Hendrick Goltzius Plaats vervaardiging: Haarlem Datering: 1590 - 1594 en/of 1900 - 1925 Fysieke kenmerken: gravure Materiaal: papier Techniek: graveren (drukprocedé) Afmetingen: plaatrand: h 278 mm × b 200 mm Toelichting Deze gravure werd samen met Goltzius' gravure van de vader van Josephus Justus Scaliger, Julius Caesar Scaliger (zie nummers/relaties), in opdracht van de Universiteit Leiden vervaardigd in 1592. De universiteit stuurde afdrukken van deze twee prenten naar verschillende geleerden in Europa. Goltzius ontving voor het graveren van de twee platen 200 guldens en nog 11 guldens extra om van elke plaat 500 afdrukken te maken. De platen bevinden zich in de Universiteitsbibliotheek van Leiden.
