Description
English: Portrait photograph of Governor Jonathan Worth (1802-1869). Photograph is not dated; date is estimated to be 1855 to 1865. The portrait and a portrait of Governor Worth (copied also and given negative call number N.2015.4.1) were sold to Charles J. Koltz, Jr., with a dresser that belonged to Fred Hodges, Jr., a descendant of Governor Worth and his wife Elizabeth Hodges. This dresser was part of the furnishings of the Worth home place called Ivy Burne in Linden, NC, and was given to Fred Hodges, Jr., upon his marriage to Elizabeth Hodges. This provenance is detailed in a letter from Elizabeth Hodges, wife of Fred Hodges, Jr., to Charles J. Koltz, Jr. Charles J. Koltz, Jr., purchased this dresser and the two portrait photographs from Elizabeth Hodges and was owner of both photographs and the dresser in 2015 when he allowed the NC State Archives to make copies of these two photographs. The letter dated December 12, 2013 accompanies the State Archives’ accession paperwork and is filed with the original accession records for these copy negatives. Copied courtesy of Charles J. Koltz, Jr., RN, PhD, JD, Rocky Mount, NC. From the General Negatives, State Archives of North Carolina, Raleigh, NC.
