Русский: Экстремально резкий и детальный портрет гусеницы ночной бабочки медведицы-кайя (Arctia caja). Эта фотография является частью серии макропортретов бабочек, мотыльков и их гусениц. Данное изображение было получено с помощью стекинга по фокусу из 37 фотографий. Для его создания были использованы два ретро объектива: MC Jupiter-37A 135mm f/3,5, который был произведен в 1985 году, и Zenitar-M 50mm f/1,7, сделанный в 1982 году. Объективы были соединены переходным кольцом для 2,5х увеличения.
"Медведица-кайя (лат. Arctia caja) — ночная бабочка из подсемейства медведицы в составе семейства Erebidae. Стадия гусеницы — с сентября по май. Зимует гусеница. Длина около 60 мм. Окраска чёрная, покрыта длинными волосками с белыми кончиками. Гусеницы первого возраста покрыта серыми волосками, с желтоватыми полосками на спине. При опасности гусеница падает с кормового растения на землю, сворачивается и притворяется мертвой. Гусеницы являются полифагами, питаясь листьями различными видами травянистых и кустарниковых пород растений. Основные кормовые растения: малина, ежевика, калина, жимолость, вереск, борщевик, дрок. Питаются также листьями таких пород, как яблоня, земляника, груша, слива." Arctia caja is a northern species found in the US, Canada, and Europe.The moth prefers cold climates with temperate seasonality, as the larvae overwinter, and preferentially chooses host plants that produce pyrrolizidine alkaloids. However, garden tiger moths are generalists, and will pick many different plants to use as larval host plants. The caterpillars of this species are, like many caterpillars of the tiger moth family, “fuzzy” in appearance, leading them to be called "woolly bears" by casual observers.Once the caterpillars reach a certain size, they acquire hollow tubes that often contain irritating compounds. The larvae depend upon the host plant for their toxic compounds, which they convert from plant defense compounds to larval and adult protection compounds.
