Description
English: Portrait of a Young Woman. Silverpoint, pen and ink, brush, white heightening and white and red chalk on pink-primed paper, 19.7 15.5 × cm, Louvre, Paris. The unknown sitter is the same model Holbein used for his Solothurn Madonna of 1522. It has been suggested that she was Holbein's wife, Elsbeth, but most scholars doubt this (Müller, p. 280). The motto along the top of the bodice, "Als in Ern", translates as "All in honour".
