English: Portrait of William Tighe (1657-1679), by Thomas Pooley

William Tighe of Woodstock in County Kilkenny, Wicklow, only son of Alderman Richard Tighe, Mayor of Dublin in 1651, and Mary daughter of Thomas Newman of London. Tighe was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, entering it on 17 October 1672, he succeeded his father in 1673, and took his B.A. and married Anne eldest daughter of Sir Christopher Lovett in 1675.[1]
