QAJAR IRAN, SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY

Opaque pigments on card mounted on board, the Prince depicted in military uniform on horseback with camels in the background and a small pavilion and mountains on the horizon to the right, corners cut, minor scratches to the surface 20 x 25¾in. (50.8 x 65.2cm.)

Prince Reza Khan Arfa' al-Dawla (ca. 1846-1937) was a poet and a diplomat who accompanied Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar (r.1848-96) on several of his diplomatic missions to Europe and Russia.
