The clou of the col-lection is the handsome portrait of Miss Kirkpat- rick, by George Romney, purchased from the fam-ily of the fitter. The portrait IS a graceful and simple delineation of a young woman of great per-sonal charm. The pose IS easy, and characteristicof Romney, who delighted in painting the beautifulwomen of the British aristocracy, as well as famous actrc f the period, imparting to their counte- nances an almost ideal feminine quality of naive contains some very cleverpainting and beautiful colour.
