Description |
English: Portrait of the French miniaturist painter Madeleine-Pauline du Cruet de Barailhon (1781-1865), pupil then wife of the miniaturist painter Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin.
This painting is similar to the Portrait en buste de Madame Augustin tenant son voile (Toile 55,5 x 46 cm), exhibited at the 1804 and 1806 Salons (Christie's London, June 16, 1980, then Paris art dealers, Biennale des Antiquaires in 1990, now in private collection). The model is the same, face turned the other way and also wearing a black dress. The present painting could be a first thought, taken on the spot, for the Salon's half-body portrait. |
