Portrait of John, 8th Lord Elphinstone later inscribed with the identity of the sitter oil on canvas held in a carved wood frame The sitter was the son of Alexander, 6th Lord Elphinstone. He succeeded his brother, Alexander, 7th Lord Elphinstone in 1669. He married Isabel, the daughter of Charles, 3rd Earl of Lauderdale, in 1670. She died in 1706 and was buried at Elphinstone. |
