Summary
[edit]DescriptionPortrait of General Thomas James Churchill.jpg | Cabinet Card of a bust portrait matte collodion print of a crayon drawing of General Thomas James Churchill in uniform. Inscription on back: Compliments of Maj Gen. T. J. Churchill Copied from a photo taken in Richmond Va in uniform worn as one of the pall bearers of Stonewall Jackson. From the Collections of the Confederate Memorial Literary Society managed by the Virginia Historical Society Note: According to the American Civil War Museum, copy photograph dates ca. 1905, original photograph clearly taken during the 1861-1865 period of the Civil War. Also, research has not shown Churchill listed specifically as a pallbearer during Stonewall Jackson's funeral. He may have been in Richmond when Jackson's body was brought to the state capitol, and may have been one of a group of generals who carried Jackson's casket into the Senate chambers, where he lay in state for a day. |
