Photograph of a portrait of Captain Charlie, a Walapai Indian policeman, Kingman, Arizona, ca.1900. Behind him hang two Indian blankets, both striped. He is sitting on a third striped blanket facing straight ahead with his eyes turned to the left. He is wearing a three-piece suit and striped shirt with a bandana. He has a cap on his head. He has a goatee and mustache, and long sideburns. His left hand is holding the hooked handle of a staff or rod. Both hands lay on his lap. A tasseled ribbon hanging from the left breast of his vest reads "Charlie, Head War Chief, Hoalappi[?...]".
