Portrait of Alexander Hepburn Murray Belsches of Invermay and Balmanna Castle (1778-1864)

Watercolour and bodycolour on ivory, gilt-metal frame, blue enamel reverse and plaited hair

68 by 54 mm

The sitter was the grandson of John Belsches of Invermay and Margaret, daughter of Sir William Stewart of Castlemilk. His younger brother, John, was also painted by Plimer (see the next lot). In 1819 he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Perthshire. We would like to thank Neil Jeffares for his help when cataloguing this work.
