For background information, see the explanations on Non-U.S. copyrights.
Article 27 of Turkish Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works, which was in force on the URAA date and is still in force today, states that "in cases stated in the first paragraph of article 12 [which deals with works where the name of the owner is not stated], the protection period is 70 years from the date that the work becomes publicized." The Topkapı Saray Museum was opened to the public on 3 April 1924.[1] This portrait of Abdülmecid II thus entered the public domain in Turkey 70 years after it was made available to the public, i.e. in 1994. |
