Français : La "Révolution Nationale" n'est pas une doctrine cohérente, mais un ensemble de tendances exprimées par le Maréchal Pétain dans une série de discours.

Après le choc de 1940, suivant la crise des années 30, un ardent désir de « régénération », de redressement, apparaît dans la classe politique française, d'autant mieux accepté que la popularité du maréchal Pétain est indéniable dans les années 1940/41. Fondée sur des principes de base chrétiens, elle sera influencée par de nombreux courants de droite et d'extrême-droite.

La Révolution Nationale a son volet colonial. Il s'agit de réaffirmer les valeurs traditionnelles en particulier l'autorité, d'effacer toute trace du relatif libéralisme d'avant-guerre, d'exalter l'œuvre passée, de montrer que le maintien de vastes territoires sous l'autorité française est un gage d'espoir. Cette politique nationaliste et autoritaire se teint, à l'occasion, de paternalisme à l'égard des indigènes. Cette politique a l'appui de la plus grande partie de la population européenne; colons, fonctionnaires y adhèrent massivement.

Mais le régime, en Indochine, perdait sur le plan politique tout le bénéfice moral de son œuvre matérielle. Répudiant ouvertement les principes démocratiques, il s'affirmait autoritaire, antiparlementaire et fondé sur le principe du Chef.

Comme en métropole une section de la «Légion Française des Combattants» qui deviendra plus tard « Légion Française des Combattants et des Volontaires de la Révolution Nationale» est créée et reçoit un très bon accueil des Européens. Les Annamites ne sont pas admis.

Au moins jusqu'en 1944, la Légion Française des Combattants sera l'un des deux piliers du régime avec la Sûreté Fédérale.
