Peintre et graveur italien, Luigi Calamatta est un proche de George Sand. Sa fille, Lina, épouse Maurice Sand, fils de l'écrivaine, en 1862. Le graveur réalise plusieurs portrait gravé de George Sand, dont un portrait en habit d'homme, conservé au musée Delacroix.
