Die Devise im aufgeschlagenen Buch ist dem Neuen Testament entnommen (Brief an die Philipper, Kapitel 1 Vers 27) und lautet: "wandelt nur würdig dem evangelium christi"
Auf einigen der als Staffage abgebildeten Buchrücken lassen sich beim Original unter starker Beleuchtung die Aufschriften "Opera Lutheri", "Xenopohon", "Polybius", "Arianus" und "Herodot" erkennen. Sie verweisen auf das theologische Hauptwerk Raphels, das mehrfach von ihm selbst zu Lebzeiten und posthum von seinem Sohn unter diesem Titel veröffentlicht wurde: Georgii Raphelii, Eccles. Luneburgensium Superintendentis, Annotationes philologicae in Novum Testamentum, ex Xenophonte, Polybio, Arriano et Herodoto collectae. : Semicenturia annotationum philologicarum in Novum Testamentum, maximam partem ex Eusebio collecta. : Accedunt Joannis Chrysostomi, Comment. et homiliae in Epistolam Pauli ad Philemonem, cum nova interpret.
