Français : Il s'agit de la Porte Chapelle, appelée aussi jadis la Connétable, le connétable Anne de Montmorency ayant été gouverneur de Compiègne, de 1526 à 1597, quand elle fut aménagée dans l'état actuel. La décoration de la façade monumentale, du côté de la ville, attribuée à Philibert Delorme, parfois à Jean Bullant, fut restaurée en 1876. Cette porte forme l'entrée d'un passage voûté long de cinquante-six mètres, où des soldats ennemis furent tenus captifs à plusieurs reprises. Marie de Médicis, le 18 juillet 1631, s'enfuit par cette issue, refusant la captivité dorée où la tenait son fils Louis XIII, fidèle à Richelieu. C'est du haut de cette porte que, le 15 septembre 1698, Louis XIV, et madame de Maintenon dans sa chaise à porteurs, assistèrent à un épisode de cet extraordinaire "camp" militaire relaté si malignement par Saint-Simon.
