Summary
[edit]DescriptionPort of Heysham Marine Workshops (2) - geograph.org.uk - 1599892.jpg |
English: Port of Heysham Marine Workshops (2) These workshops are mainly used to maintain the tractors which transfer lorry trailers on and off the ferries. The building stands in the middle of a roundabout.
The building was originally a power station for the harbour, which opened in 1904. From 1908 it also supplied power to the Midland Railway lines between Lancaster, Morecambe & Heysham. This was a pioneering alternating current overhead electrification scheme. See Morecambe_Branch_Line. |
