| Description |
English: Pool (in the pit of a former limestone quarry). The pool that is visible in this photo occupies just part of a larger pit, its extent varying according to recent rainfall. The pool is bordered on its western side by a natural wall-like formation of rock, visible here in the lower left corner of the image. The wall is about 10 metres long, is 90 cm wide, and measures up to 1.1 metres in height.
The pit is overlooked on its southern side by some limestone outcrops (which are at the photographer's position). In addition, the pit itself seemed rather artificial, leading me to suspect that it was once a limestone quarry. This suspicion was confirmed when I discovered, not far to the north, some structures which proved to be lime-kiln ruins; see: 1410024. A few splashes of colour can be seen on the natural wall formation: these are patches of Wild Thyme. |
