Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pony grazing at the gate to Hincheslea House, New Forest. Hincheslea is a pre-Domesday Book manor, listed in the Book as HINCELVESLEI. The name possibly derives from the Old English 'Hindcealfes leah' = 'hind calf (immature female red deer) wood/clearing'. The gate to the present day house at Hincheslea is seen here (with the gatehouse in the background).
