Description

Sitúase sobre o río Bibei, entre os municipios de Trives e Quiroga, no fondo dun canón polo que discorre o río. Foi construída para o paso da vía XVIII do Itinerarium Antonini de Braga a Astorga, coñecida como Via Nova. A súa orixe romana é evidenciada polas súas características construtivas e grazas aos testemuños epigráficas da época de construción. Foi reformada no século XIX con motivo das obras de corrección da estrada de Ponferrada a Ourense.

Esta ponte presenta tres arcos de medio punto sobre altos piares, con igual altura de clave nos tres, aínda que os laterais (6 e 9) son de menor luz có central (19 metros). Os dous piares son de planta rectangular e os seus espesores son lixeiramente distintos. Os tallamares teñen planta triangular e apuntadas augas arriba. Conserva en ambas as beiras muros de canalización. A calzada horizontal de seis metros de ancho conserva íntegra a súa admirábel cantería granítica, de fiadas iguais.

Esta ponte está ben cimentada sobre un afloramento de xisto. Na súa factura revélanse algunhas das características das pontes romanas: é unha ponte ancha (6,30 metros), ten fiadas alternas de perpiaño a soga e tizón e está realizado con cantería almofadada.

Nel vense os buratos para colocar os perpiaños na súa posición definitiva. Os apoios das cimbras e das estadas apóianse ben en tacos, ben en machinais. Aloxaban no seu interior as vigas de madeira que servían de apoio ás mencionadas cimbras ou estadas auxiliares de construción. Tamén son destacábeis un par de marcas de canteiro moi claras que representan varios numerais, ademais da representación dun falo inciso de carácter profiláctico.
