Group photograph taken to mark the development of the NARPOL aircraft coating system at the Naval Air Engineering Center's Aeronautical Materials Laboratory, Polymer Division. NARPOL is a partially fluorinated polyphenyl ester polymer used to coat aircraft metals. Several canisters of NARPOL primers and coatings, as well as a model aircraft are visible on the table. The individuals present in the photograph are identified as follows (left to right): Mr. C.A. Cassola (High Polymer Division Superintendent); Mr. W.W. Howerton (Polymer chemist); Cdr. R.L. Abbott (Laboratory Director); and Mr. J. Hartley Bowen (Technical Director).
