Summary

[edit]
Description

Located in Normandy, France immediately behind what was Omaha Beach during the landings of June 1944. There are 9385 American servicemen buried here, most of which died during the landing. Walking among the rows and rows of markers is a sobering experience.

This is the American Battle Monuments Commission's most visited cemetery, receiving approximately one million visitors each year. It's beautifully kept and provides views down to the i'll fated beach.

This large cemetery was used in the emotional opening and closing scenes of the film "Saving Private Ryan".
