Description
English: The Red Harvester Ant, Pogonomyrmex barbatus has an extensive subterranean nest with a characteristic wide clearing around the entrance hole, with different coloring from the surrounding soil due to the soil excavated from below and deposited by the ants at the surface. In this example, the nest is framed by a large stand of dried foxtail, the seeds of which are collected by the ants.
