Summary
[edit]DescriptionPogonomyrmex barbatus - Red Harvester Ants. rain cover stack detail.jpg |
English: A stacked mound mean to shed rain made of cut pine needles built over secondary entrances or ventilation holes connected to the main nest of the Red Harvester Ant, Pogonomyrmex barbatus. The ants will construct these just before rains, indicating their sensitivity to changes in humidity.
In this photo, the mound has been pushed aside to expose a small hole, plainly not like the normal large entry hole to the main nest. |
