| Description |
The Royal Abbey of Santa Maria de Poblet is a Cistercian monastery, founded in 1151, in the Catalonia region of Spain. Eight kings of the Aragon region of Spain are buried here. The monastery has had mixed fortunes and by the 19th century was partially in ruins and abandoned. However in 1940 restoration work started and today it's restored, there are approximately 30 monks and the building is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors are welcome. The man in the photo is my brother (not a monk !!) |
