Description

Il s'agit d'une estampe contenant un passage des Métamorphoses d'Ovide traduit en français et une illustration de la main de Bernard Salomon. Le texte et l'illustration sont entourés d'un riche décor. L'épisode mythologique représenté est le suivant : la naïade (nimbe d'eau douce) Cyané tente d'empêcher Pluton d'enlever sa compagne de jeu Proserpine. Ne parvenant pas à sauver son amie, elle se dissout dans les larmes et se fond dans son bassin.

L'estampe fait partie de l'édition de 1564 de La Métamorphose d'Ovide figurée, publiée par le typographe français Jean de Tournes.
