Summary

[edit]
Description
English: ”Monsieur, you have the advantage of me, but you cannot refuse me the satisfaction due one gentleman from another.”

“Of course not,” replied Paul, “but before I recognize you as a gentleman I want to see some proofs that you are one.” “Diable! Sacre!” hissed the Frenchman in ungovernable rage. “I will have the satisfaction now!” and raising a revolver, he quickly aimed at Paul and pulled the trigger. The shot was so sudden, so unexpected, that Paul had no time to dodge or screen himself from the bullet of the Frenchman. The ball cut a hole in his hat, passing within an inch of his head. “You are a very poor shot, Monsieur,” said Paul. “I can give you lessons in marksmanship,” and with that he raised his revolver and aimed it toward the Frenchman.

The Lost Treasure Ship; or, In Search of a Million in Gold by Cap't Tho's. H. Wilson (a pseudonym or "house name") in Pluck and Luck magazine No. 888, June 9, 1915.

This is one of at least two printings of The Lost Treasure Ship. The story also appeared in Pluck and Luck No. 52 in 1899, attributed to Cap't. Tho's. H. Wilson.

See a scan of the more colorful 1899 cover here.

Some Pluck and Luck stories attributed to Cap't Tho's H. Wilson appeared in serialized format in The Boys of New York and other story papers in the 1880s and 1890s under different pen names. A few of these stories have been confirmed to have been authored by Francis W. Doughty (1850 - 1917), a prolific pulp story author whose work was published under a plethora of pseudonyms. Stylistic elements of the stories suggest that some may also have been written by Luis Senarens.
