Posse do presidente Ernesto Geisel e de seu vice Adalberto Pereira dos Santos, em 15 de março de 1974, em sessão conjunta do Congresso Nacional, presidida pelo senador Paulo Torres.

A Emenda Constitucional nº 1, de 17 de outubro de 1969, fixou o mandato presidencial em 5 anos.
