English translation: Erich Ohser, who called himself e.o.plauen as an artist, is still famous today for his humorous picture stories about "Father & Son". Ohser lived from 1903 to 1944 and was a draftsman and caricaturist. In his 150 comic strips, which appeared in "Berliner Illustrirten", he portrayed himself and his son Christian. He was friends with Erich Kästner, whose poems he illustrated. In 1944, an informer reported to the Gestapo that Erich Ohser and his friend Erich Knauf had made “statements critical of the regime.” Both were arrested and tried at the Nazis' infamous "People's Court" for "undermining military strength." Shortly before his execution, Ohser ended his own life. The sentence was carried out on Erich Knauf. Ohser's "Father and Son" are now (2013) all over the city of Plauen and advertise a wide variety of local businesses. |
