Summary
[edit]DescriptionPlatinum Blond (5298633641).jpg |
At first I was attracted by the stark whiteness of this anemone. But as I started shooting, I kind of liked the way the camera flash shadowed across its tentacles. This is the most bleached-looking anemone I've ever seen. The condition is not normal for this species and most likely resulted from elevated water temperature. My dive computer indicated 86°F (30 °C). The warm water kills the colored zooxanthellae algae that live inside the animals tissues. When healthy, the zooxanthellae provide food to the animal through photosynthesis... like coral, this is a solar animal! And it's pretty too. |
