Plate I fromPuschapter. Fig 1 (top left) two abscesses in the left hemisphere of the brain, one large enough to contain a hen's egg, the other the size of the tip of the little finger. Fig 2 (top right)Purulent deposition and abscess of the brain, succeeding to extensive supuration of the hand and forearm. Fig 3 (centre)a remarkable example of suppuration of the grey substance of the two lateral halves of the medulla spinalis.

Fig 4 (bottom left) Kidney with numerous small abscesses causing inflammation of the prostate and obstruction of the urethra. Fig 5 (centre left) purulent deposits in the intermuscular cellular tissue of the heart.
