Description
English: A plate engraved for the Macklin Bible after a specially-commissioned painting by Philippe Jacques De Loutherbourg. Photograph from the Bowyer Bible, Bolton, England. Bowyer Bible 16.2247. The Ascent of Elijah. Elisha falling to his knees at left as his father Elijah ascends through the clouds in a chariot above (2 Kings 2:10-11). 1791. Inscriptions: Lettered below image with title, bible reference, production detail: "P. J. De Loutherbourg R.A. Pinxt.", "W. Byrne Sculpt." and publication line: "London Published May 7. 1791, by Thos. Macklin, Fleet Street". Print made by William Byrne. Dimensions: Height: 480 millimetres; width: 396 millimetres.
