The 10-kilometre tall mountain of Hattu, seen here from the road to Narkanda, was covered in dark forests thickly inhabited by bears and "hyenas". Not to be "explored by night".

This view was made at the staging bungalow at Narkhanda, 8,800 feet above sea level. Staging bungalows were used as resting places on the journey through the mountains.
