Description
English:

Handwritten on verso: Please return to Wilder & White, 16 E 41st St PH Coll 461.300

Architects Wilder and White designed the decorative carving scheme for the columns on the Legislative Building collonade. They commissioned New York sculptor Maxfield H. Keck to create a full-scale plaster mockup of the columns, capitals (decorative pieces at the top of the columns), and portico ceiling sections. This mockup is shown here. Keck also created mockups for other decorative building components, such as the six main bronze doors. He was paid a total of $21,655 for his work on the Legislative Building project. Stone carvers crafted all of the final pieces on site in Olympia based on these plaster mockups. Source: Johnston, Norman J. "Washington's Audacious State Capitol and Its Builders".
