Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Coat of arms at Avebury Manor, Wiltshire, over the main door into the manor house from the east, appearing to show a shield, emerging from a lily, displaying a lion rampant holding a banner with a chief (showing indistinct charges), with supporters of two putti. Not arms of Dunch nor of Stawell. Possibly arms of the prominent Long family of Draycot, Wiltshire, which feature a lion rampant (Arms of Long of South Wraxall and Draycot Cerne in Wiltshire: Sable semée of crosses-crosslet argent, a lion rampant of the second). Wikipedia: "In 1640 the Dunch family sold Avebury Manor to John Stawell, and the estate was sequestered when he was accused of treason in 1646. It was sold to George Long in 1652 but restored to Stawell in 1660 on his release from the Tower of London"
