| Description | Native, warm season, perennial, hairy herb, with a persistent and often stout taproot. Leaves are basal, narrow-elliptic to oblong-oblanceolate, mostly 6–20 cm long, 10–20 mm wide and 3–5-veined; margins are usually toothed with conspicuous and often retrorse teeth; with reddish brown hairs in the leaf axil. Scapes are mostly 8–20 cm long.Flowerheads are spikes 3–11 cm long. Sepals are 2.8–3.5 mm long and petals are 1.5–2.3 mm long. Capsules are ovoid-globose and 3–3.8 mm long. Flowering is mostly from August to February. Common and widespread in grasslands, woodlands and forests, especially on the tablelands. It is particularly common in areas that have been disturbed or have poor ground cover. Persists with moderate disturbance. Has reasonable grazing quality. |
