Português: Planta geral do posto de comando das baterias antiaéreas do Pico de São Martinho. Campanha de 1942 e seguintes. Em 1932, o Exército Português adquiriu a sua primeira Bateria de Artilharia Antiaérea, proveniente do Reino Unido. Esta Bateria era dotada do mais recente modelo da casa Vickers-Armstrong, a Peça de Artilharia Antiaérea 7,5 cm. Vickers S.A. m/931, com um alcance vertical de 9.200 m. e uma cadência de tiro de 25 tiros por minuto (Reis & Sousa, 2016: 37). Relativamente à Arma de Artilharia, o Plano de Defesa previa que fossem utilizados os seguintes meios: 1 bateria de artilharia de costa; 2 baterias, AA de 94 mm.; 1 bateria de Bofors 40 mm. e uma bateria de referenciação. No ano de 1942, tem início a mobilização de duas baterias AA para o arquipélago da Madeira, dando-se posteriormente a sua colocação nos locais designados para o efeito, e haviam sido identificados durante a elaboração do plano de defesa. A primeira bateria AA que chegou ao arquipélago a bordo navio Lima em 10 de janeiro de 1942, foi designada por 7.ª Bateria de Defesa Contra Aeronaves e era oriunda do Grupo de Artilharia Contra Aeronaves N.º 1 de Cascais, a unidade pioneira na defesa antiaérea em Portugal, montada a partir de 1932 pelo depois coronel e engenheiro madeirense Ernesto Florêncio da Cunha (1890-1980), que fora governador civil do Funchal entre 1927 e 1928. |
